Clicker Training - For Positive Dog Training

Urgent Press Release For Dog Owners:

Don't Let Your DOG Die Young Because Of Negligence

    >>  Click Here To Know 5 Simples Things You Must Do Now Right Now To Protect Your Dog From Disease

Looking for an easy, fun way to train your dog? Clicker training is the answer. Clicker training uses a small device, that when pressed makes a clicking sound. This click signifies to the dog, job well done. The click is usually followed up immediately with a treat.

The clicker training method doesn't use punishment, or violence to teach the dog obedience. Clicker Training is a totally positive experience for the dog. The click provides the dog with confidence that he or she is performing the required task correctly, and the follow-up treat rewards him or her to encourage that required behavior.

Clicker Training can be used to train almost any command you can think. For example, to teach a dog to sit, you might move the treat over her head, and her head will move up forcing her butt down. When her butt hits the floor, you can click and treat. Repeat the process several times adding the "Sit" command. The dog has now been trained to sit, using the clicker training method. This is a very basic example, but this method can be applied to any aspect of the dogs training. Many experts agree clicker training is the most gentle, safest way to train a dog.

Brian Thibault is a dog training hobbiest, who specializes in clicker training. To find out more about clicker training visit, http://www.helpthedog.com.

Dog Training - 8 Correction Mistakes Dog Owners Make

Urgent Press Release For Dog Owners:

Don't Let Your DOG Die Young Because Of Negligence

    >>  Click Here To Know 5 Simples Things You Must Do Now Right Now To Protect Your Dog From Disease

Just like no dog is perfect, neither are pet owners. A lot of dog behavior problems go right back to poor dog owner training. Here are some of the most common mistakes dog owners make that lead to bad dog behavior:

    1. Inconsistent training. Just like with your typical human two-year-old, you've must be consistent when training your dog. Letting Max get away with bad behavior even some of the time will lead to problems down the road.

    2. Reinforcing bad behavior. A classic poorly trained dog owner behavior. Even the best of us don't realize when we've done it. Here's the classic example: Buttons scratches the door to be let in. You just painted the door and don't want Buttons ruining the new paint, so you let him in immediately. Guess what Buttons just learned? If he scratches the door, you'll let him in immediately! Don't let your dog outsmart you! You may just have to put up with a few scratch marks on the door until Buttons gets the message. Never let your dog in the house when he scratches on the door or barks.

    3. Using the dog's name when correcting him. It's important not to make "no" sound like a part of your puppy's name: Buster No! Just say the word, in a low, growling voice. Don't use "no" when your dog isn't doing the unwanted behavior but is considering it. Try "don't," again, using a low, growling, and firm voice.

    4. Leaving the dog alone too much. The pounds are full of young dogs that somebody wanted when they were puppies, but because the owners worked 12-hour days every day, the dog now has behavior problems. Spend time with your dog every day.

    5. Crating a dog too long. Not only is this bad for your dog's behavior, keeping him in a crate for hours and hours day after day can affect his growth and his muscle tone.

    6. Chaining a dog. If you don't have a secure fence, then keep your dog in the house crated. Chaining a dog is dangerous and cruel.

    7. Yelling. Your dog will not respond to yelling. Everyone loses their temper from time to time, but constantly yelling at your dog loses its effect quickly - just like it does on your spouse or your children.

    8. Hitting. Swatting your dog with newspaper or hitting him just teaches him that aggression gets the leader of the pack what he wants. Don't hit your dog. It sets a bad example.

Some dogs, especially some toy breeds or hounds, may still have trouble. This is especially true of small dogs. Remember, you are training your pet to not leave waste in his den, and to a small dog your home may be too big to seem den-like.

Dog and Puppy Obedience Training – More Dog Training Tips

Urgent Press Release For Dog Owners:

Don't Let Your DOG Die Young Because Of Negligence

    >>  Click Here To Know 5 Simples Things You Must Do Now Right Now To Protect Your Dog From Disease

Puppy obedience training and older dog obedience training use a lot of common sense, some understanding of dog pack behavior, and a few simple techniques. I begin with a reminder to you all – one of the puppy training tips that I have found to help immensely. Be sure you walk for a few minutes with your dog on a proper heel. Starting him off in the follower position with you in the lead makes it a lot easier on you, and it gets you both in the mode to respect you as the Pack Leader.

With that done, here is a simple way to make your dog familiar with the commands "sit" and "down." Tell the dog "Good sit" as he sits by you looking for affection, and "Good down" when he is lying at your feet after you have had a long day. If he does not seem to understand when you ask him to lie down, push his rear down and work his front paws down. (Obviously, he starts in the sit posture when you do this.)

Command an action from the dog with your hands (or simultaneously with hands and voice). It is easy for him to watch them, and using your hands for direction causes him to respect them. Also, take time to touch and handle all parts of your dog's body often to avoid fear at the vet or any time he needs to be checked over.

To teach your dog to stay, bring him to one spot and tell him to sit. Then say "Stay" and step back a little. Go forward three steps, then five, then ten.

Mix up the amount of steps so the dog cannot predict what you are going to do. If the dog can guess what you will do, he may cheat.

Sit, move forward two steps, and sit again. If the dog cheats or does not stay when you say to, you must take him back to the original spot and start over. If you do not fix the mistakes immediately, you are likely to have a dog that will cheat way too often and not listen to you at all.

Dog training is really not hard. It simply is a matter of nailing down a few key points. Here are some more dog training and puppy training tips:

Your dog will not be unhappy with you for telling him what to do. On the contrary, he will be angry and frustrated if you don't!

Always be consistent and follow through in the simplest of things. The little things go a long way. The little things are also remembered.

Do not take it out on your dog if you have had a bad day. It will not help, and it is not his fault. It is better to skip it if you are really ticked.

Always introduce a new command in stages -- one step at a time. Let each step be understood and assimilated before adding more. You want to lead and instruct your pet, not confuse and frustrate him.

If you are having difficulty implementing these dog obedience training steps with any modicum of success, then there may be other dog behavior issues - physical or psychological - that underlie the problem. Ask a dog behaviorist for help. Not just any dog trainer will do. You need someone who will help you understand if it is you, the dog, or both. I know better than to buy the popular myth that "a bad dog is the sign of a bad owner."
